The Vice-Chancellor, University of Benin (UNIBEN), Prof. Edina Omoregie, has decried the low enrolment of his students into the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) scheme.
Omoregie raised the concerns during a meeting with NELFUND officials on the prospect of getting more UNIBEN students enrolled into the scheme.
Responding to the request, the Executive Director, Operations at NELFUND, Mustapha Iyal, blamed the development on lack of sensitisation and doubts on the authenticity of the fund by students.
Iyal expressed the agency’s readiness to include as many university students as possible, as long as they apply and meet the guidelines.
Findings showed that as at August 16, 2024, a total of 332 students of the university have benefitted from the scheme.
The benefitting students received N24.4 million from the scheme.
