Adeleke to flag off remodelling of Osogbo stadium Tuesday

The Governor of Osun State, Senator Ademola Adeleke, alongside his deputy and Commissioner for Sports, Prince Kola Adewusi, will officially flag off the remodelling of the Osogbo Township Stadium on Tuesday, February 11, 2025.

This followed the 2024 approval for the remodelling of the multi-purpose stadium, which is already undergoing major renovations and is expected to be fully completed by mid-2026.

In a statement, the Chief PRO, Osun State Sports Council, Mrs Funmilayo Moradeyo, said the groundbreaking ceremony marks the commencement of a transformational project that will reposition Osogbo as a major sporting hub in Nigeria.

According to her, the Acting Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Sports and Special Needs, Mr Layi Adesiyan, and the General manager of the Osun State Sports Council, Mr Rotimi Dunmoye, revealed that the event will also feature a special cash award presentation to athletes who made the state proud in competitions.

She said upon completion, the Osogbo Township Stadium will feature two artificial turf fields, one grass pitch, an artificial hockey pitch, a multipurpose indoor sports hall, two tartan tracks, a squash court, a swimming pool, hostels and a hotel for athletes and visitors, covered seating for the main bowl pitch, and a shopping complex to boost local economic no activities.

Moradeyo said the upgrade will not only provide world-class sports facilities but will also contribute significantly to the economic and social growth of Osun State, attracting athletes, sports enthusiasts, and businesses from across the country.

The flag-off event will also have in attendance cabinet members, members of the Osun State House of Assembly, led by the Speaker, Adewale Egbedun, alongside with Chairman House Committee on Sports, Abiola Jeremiah Awoyeye, as well as other key stakeholders in the sports industry.
