Niger governor threatens to sanction erring contractors

Governor Umaru Bago of Niger State has threatened to sanction erring contractors, warning them that they will have their contracts revoked

Governor Umaru Bago of Niger State has warned that any contractors who fail to meet up with contract specifications will have their contract revoked.

He urged those delaying the execution of the road projects across the local Councils of the state to speed up work to ensure the timely completion of the projects.

Bago gave the warning during an interactive session with contractors handling road projects, held at the Council Chamber, Government House, Minna.

He praised the contractors that have fully executed road and other major projects as the state government will not compromise in its developmental strides as June 2025 has been set aside as the deadline to complete the road projects.

Bago told the contractors that his decision to stop the Certificate of Valuation of some of the contractors in the bank was because he was not satisfied with their level of work while those who had been performed would be paid immediately.

Bago also directed the Commissioner for Finance, Lawal Maikano, to liquidate all the money tied down to the Advanced Payment Guarantee APG to enable contractors to have access to funds for project execution and warned contractors to be responsible and ensure that they complete the road projects at the stipulated time.
