Niger re-opens two closed secondary schools in Minna

The Niger State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education has re-opened the two secondary schools shut down as a result of an inter-school fight between Government Day Secondary School, Bosso Road, Minna, and Father O’Connell Science College, Minna, on Wednesday, 12th March 2025.

According to a statement issued to newsmen in Minna over the weekend by the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Dr. Hadiza Mohammed, the ministry officials had an interactive session with Governor Mohammed Bago on the inter-school fight.

In consideration of the second-term examination, the ministry resolved to reopen the schools on Monday, 17th March 2025.

The statement further explained that the school management, teachers, and other staff members of the schools are also to resume on Monday, March 17, 2025, while students are expected to resume on Tuesday, 18th March 2025, along with their parents and guardians for proper documentation as well as signing an undertaking.

In a related development, parents and guardians are also invited to a stakeholders’ meeting fixed for Thursday, 20th March 2025, at 10 a.m. at Teachers House, NUT Secretariat, Tunga-Goro, Minna.
