The troops of the 6 Brigade/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have neutralised two terrorists and destroyed multiple bandits’ camps during clearance operations under “Operation Lafiyan Jamaa.”
The Brigade’s Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, Captain Oni Olubodunde, in a statement, said the operation was carried out on April 14 following credible intelligence about the movement of suspected bandits between Mayokan and Bondogri villages in Bali Local Government Area.
“During the operation, soldiers engaged suspected terrorists in a firefight around the communities of Garbatau, Garin Hamidu, Bandaguri, and Mayokan. Two terrorists were killed, while others reportedly escaped with gunshot wounds,” Olubodunde said.
Recovered items from the operation include one AK-47 rifle with a magazine, four rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, a single-barrel Dane gun, 27 arrows, and six cutlasses.
In a related operation on the same day, troops were said to have conducted a clearance patrol targeting suspected bandit hideouts near Yamiri Village in Sarkin Kudu Ward, Ibi Local Government Area.
The Army spokesperson said the criminals fled upon sighting the troops, abandoning their camp.
“Troops recovered a military woodland camouflage uniform and a Bible during the sweep, and the camp was subsequently destroyed,” Olubodunde said.
The Commander of the 6 Brigade, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, praised the troops for their gallantry and reiterated the Army’s commitment to restoring peace and security in the state.
He urged the public to support military operations by providing timely and credible information, assuring that the Brigade remains steadfast in its mission.
“The 6 Brigade remains resolute in its mission to safeguard lives and property. We will not relent until all criminal elements are flushed out of the state,” General Uwa stated.
