A person will win a brand new car while the first caller on Yanga FM 88.9 will win N1 million.
This was announced in Eko Atlantic City during the unveiling of the Pigin station and hosts of the shows on the radio.
Yanga FM is a radio station under the TVC Communication. TVC Communications is the parent of TVC News, Max FM, Adaba FM and Yanga.
Though, TVC Communications over the years have incorporated Pigin English in Max FM but it was the first time it’s creating a station for Pigin.
The station said though it’s aware of radio stations presenting in Pigin but its coming is to revolutionize the space and make Pigin more attractive.
Speaking during the unveiling, General Manager, Yanga FM, Marvin Arimi, said: “We felt there is a gap to be filled after we have birthed different ideas.
“Fela Anikulapo-Kuti started Afrobeat but others came years later to redefine Afrobeat and made it Afrobeats which started with 2 Baba, Dbanj before Wizkid and Davido came onboard so, Yanga is a new and innovative idea to do something different. Everybody that came in have been following a particular channel, focusing only on the grassroots and we decided to do it differently.
“People say Pigin is not a language for refined people but everyone are now learning it; our job is to present and entertain in Pigin and sound cool especially to the younger people.
“We have some of finest On Air Personalities (OAPs). Wale Animashaun a.k.a WalePowPowPo and Wetin Dey have moved to Yanga because it won’t make sense to have Wetin Dey as Pigin programme competing with Yanga, Ejiro and Baby Lawyer have also moved so, everything Pigin have been moved from Max FM to Yanga FM. Max fm is still the hit music station in Lagos while Yanga is the Pigin version with a bit of culture and twists.
“We want to connect Nigerians and Africans more to international communities. For example, we will interview Chris Brown, Nicki Minaj and others and teach them how to speak Pigin.
Arimi who is also the General Manager, Max FM, added:
“We focus on our students, Middle class workers and others.
“We have Wetin Dey, Sports, Phyna who will be coming with her own ideas.
Speaking on the prizes, he said: “The first person to call the station will win N1 million while a competition will be held for one person to win a car.”
Speaking on what he will be bringing to the station, Henry Ogunbodede better known as EmmCee RNB, said: “I have been anchoring breakfast show for years so, I am bringing new styles to the show from 5.p.m to 9.p.m on Yanga.
Also speaking, Animashaun, said: “Wetin Dey and Yanga FM are the greatest inventions. We will be waking listeners up to make them feel Yanga is a place to be.
Nigerian actress, Ijeoma Josephina Otabor known as Phyna who was unveiled as one of the show, said: “I decided to join Yanga because I love to entertain people but I discovered that I needed a bigger platform and I decided to be part of the Yanga FM’s family.
