There was panic around the Oke Ola area of Osogbo, Osun State capital, on Sunday when a young man, simply identified as Kazeem, was allegedly killed during a rival cult clash, The Guardian authoritatively gathered.

The incident, which occurred around 7:00 p.m., was said to have caused panic around the area as residents and shop owners hurriedly closed their doors to avoid being caught up in the melee.

An eyewitness informed our correspondent that the deceased was allegedly killed by members of the Eiye Confraternity led by one Tajudeen of Oke Baale area of Osogbo.

According to the witness, a masquerade had entered Oke Ola and those cultists accompanied the masquerade to the area. It was during the procession that a deadly clash ensued between rival cult groups.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Osun State Police Command, Abiodun Ojelabi, confirmed the incident.

“The incident happened and we have launched a manhunt for those involved. Those hoodlums used the opportunity of the masquerade festival to perpetrate the crime.

“Anti-cultism squad in Osogbo quickly responded to save the situation. Meanwhile, the armed hoodlums took to their heels when they sighted police vehicles,” Ojelabi hinted.
