Key Verse:Psalm 78:72: “And David shepherded them with integrity of heart; with skillful hands he led them,” (NIV).
Myles Munroe said: “I believe that trapped inside you is an undiscovered leader of great value to your generation!” You can only lead better when you discover and unleash the leader in you. There is a hidden leader inside of us and we have to develop and deploy it. You have to develop your leadership skills to lead better. You build capacity for leadership to lead better. Leadership skills ought to be cultivated.
Leadership is about passion to make a change. Munroe said: “True leaders do not seek power, but are driven by a passion to achieve a noble cause.” You may ask, are leaders born, made, developed or product of circumstances? Is leadership only for the selected few, elites or people of advanced intelligence? Anyone can become a leader whether man or woman, rich or poor, trained or untrained. In fact, most of the great leaders that have impacted humanity greatly were simple people with hidden qualities driven by passion to make positive impact. Leadership is about producing character that inspires confidence and the trust of others.
There is a leadership gap in our world today yearning to be filled. We are living in a very distressing time characterized by unpredictable political unrest, threats, devastating wars, natural disasters, fatal diseases, lethal weapons, among others. This painful reality have created leadership vacuum throughout our world. In almost every realms including spiritual realm, there is absence of effective leadership. The rise of corruption and unethical activities among the spiritual leaders, political leaders and business leaders confirms the urgent need for competent leaders. Leadership is about willingness to accept the challenge and face it head-on with integrity, character, and a commitment to execute righteous judgment for a better world.
The biblical record reveals God’s demand for quality leaders during times of human crisis. The call of Moses arose out of a need to fill a leadership vacuum in a time of crisis (Exodus 3). Leaders are deliverers like Moses who are sent to go and deliver the people out of their problems, predicament, bondage and slavery. True leadership alleviates the pains and sufferings of the people.
Everyone can lead and we are all leaders in our unique ways. Leadership is the calling of every human being, regardless of age, gender, circumstance, or vocation. It is your calling. People whom you inspire call you “leader.” Inspiration is the opposite of intimidation and the absence of manipulation. To become a leader, you must be inspired so that you can inspire others.
It is the power of inspiration that becomes contagious and moves others to submit personal vision to a corporate dream. Leadership is all about attitude. Attitude has to do with how we respond to life. Leadership never exists for itself. It exists for the purpose of guiding others to a better future, enabling them to develop in greater ways, helping them to improve themselves, and inspiring them to believe that anything is possible.
