Two weeks after, votes scored by declared winners of council election not officially available

Two weeks after Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) conducted the 2025 council elections and announced winners, the votes cast for both winners and losers have not been made available to the public, officially. It is also not fully available on its website.

A day after the election, Chairman of the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC), Retired Justice Bola Okikiolu-Ighile, only announced the winners without the figures of the votes the winners and losers.

She stated that the All Progressives Congress (APC) not only won all the available 57 chairmanship seats, but also won 375 of the 376 councillorship seats, losing one councillorship seat to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Yaba Local Council Development Area (LCDA).

The elections held across the 13,325 polling units in Lagos were marred by low voter turnout with minimal incidents. A total of 57 chairmanship and vice chairmanship positions and 376 councillorship seats were contested.

It was stated that out of the 19 registered political parties, 15 fielded candidates for the elections with APC the only party that contested every available seat, while the PDP contested in 45 local councils and 259 wards. The Labour Party (LP) had candidates in 22 local councils and 130 wards, while other parties such as Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), African Action Congress (AAC), Action Alliance (AA), and Young Progressive Party (YPP) fielded fewer candidates.

Surprisingly, weeks after, a visit to the website of the electoral body, the results are not fully available. After perusing the site, only the votes scored by some of the winners of wards elections as councilors that were available, while the winners of the local council election were listed on the website, but the number of votes with which they won the election were not made available, let alone the votes scored by the losers.
