The Ngwa High School Old Boys (NAHISCO Varsity) Association, 82 set, has elected new officers with Chief Paulinus Ashiegbu emerging as the chairman.
In the election supervised by a three-man committee headed by Chisom Nwarungwa, a lawyer, Ashiegbu was elected unopposed to lead the association for the next four years.
Others elected into various positions are Pastor Ezinwa Kanu (Vice Chairman), Obioma Nwadiogu (General Secretary), Chima Amugo (Treasurer), Miracle Nwanosike (Financial Secretary), Christopher Nwachukwu (Publicity Secretary), Totty Ijomah (Provost) and Victor Egege (Welfare Secretary).
Speaking shortly after his election, the new chairman, Ashiegbu, thanked the members for finding him worthy of leading the association, promising to discharge his duties to the best of his ability.
He said: “We implore everybody to re-enact the togetherness nay oneness we had before leaving Ngwa High School.
Having these high calibre men in the saddle with me, the sky is our limit.
“Ngwa High School has contributed in no small measure in making us what we are today. So, it’s time to appreciate it. Correct us where you find us wanting. Welcome on board all the stars of NHSOBA 82 set.”
Earlier, Chairman of the Electoral Committee, Chisom Nwarungwa, explained the process that led to the successful polls, noting that two aspirants were disqualified ‘due to late expression of interest.’
He said: “At the end of the exercise, 27 members of the association voted via secret ballot for only two keenly contested positions, being the offices of the vice chairman and treasurer. The other offices of the executive committee were not contested as the candidates were returned unopposed.”
Other members of the electoral committee were Pastor Damian Nwabuko and Lawrence Nwosu.
