Odeh, Adewunmi to lead corporate communications at NNPC

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) has appointed Andy Odeh and Mrs Morenike Adewunmi to head its communications and stakeholder relations portfolios.

The corporation has been without a spokesperson for 72 days since Femi Soneye’s role ended on June 21 as Chief Corporate Communications Officer of the company after 20 months.

With the new development, NNPCL has divided its corporate communications departments into two as Ode will focus on corporate communications, while Adewunmi will prioritise stakeholders’ relations.

Odeh, according to NNPCL, has more than 30 years of experience spanning oil and gas, advertising, and broadcasting. He spent 26 years at Nigeria NLNG, where he held senior positions in corporate communications, public affairs, government relations, community development, and, most recently, as General Manager of External Relations and Sustainable Development.

At NLNG, Odeh led the firm’s rebranding campaign, implemented a widely acclaimed micro-credit scheme for host communities, and helped establish the NLNG Prize for Energy Reporting.

He is a graduate of the University of Jos and the University of Lagos, with further executive training at INSEAD Business School and the Nigerian Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies.

Adewunmi, lawyer with over 25 years in the oil and gas sector, previously held senior roles at Shell Companies in Nigeria (SCIN).

Her career at Shell included positions as Regulatory Affairs Manager and Government Relations Manager, where she managed compliance, permits, and high-level engagements with the Presidency, ministries, and regulatory agencies.

Respected for her expertise in stakeholder management, advocacy, and non-technical risk, Adewunmi is known for her leadership skills and ability to build strong networks across government and industry.

She studied law at Olabisi Onabanjo University and the Nigerian Law School.

NNPCL said the appointments show its commitment to strengthening communications and stakeholder engagement as part of its corporate strategy.
