Northern governors mourn renowned Islamic scholar, Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi

The Chairman of the Northern States Governors’ Forum (NSGF) and Governor of Gombe State, Inuwa Yahaya, has expressed deep sorrow over the demise of renowned Islamic scholar and global Tijjaniyya spiritual leader, Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi, who died on Wednesday night.

Governor Yahaya, in a press release issued by his media aide, Isma’ila Uba Misilli, on Thursday, described the late Sheikh as a scholar of exceptional depth whose life, teachings and spiritual guidance touched millions across generations.

He noted that Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi devoted his century-long life to the propagation of Islamic knowledge, contributing immensely to the understanding of the Holy Qur’an, Hadith, Islamic jurisprudence and the deeper spiritual dimensions of Sufism.

“Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi was a scholar of exceptional depth and humility. His mastery of Islamic texts, coupled with his remarkable spiritual insight, distinguished him as a true guide for Muslims within and beyond Nigeria. His teachings enriched countless lives and will continue to illuminate generations to come,” the governor said.

The NSGF chairman added that the late Tijjaniyya leader played an indispensable role in promoting peace, unity, tolerance and moral discipline, values that he embodied throughout his life.

“Sheikh’s commitment to nurturing moral and spiritual values helped shape the character of his followers, his children and the Ummah in general. His centenary journey was a testimony to a life lived in service to Allah, to humanity, and to the pursuit of righteousness,” he stated.

Governor Yahaya extended the condolences of the Northern Governors’ Forum to the family of the deceased, the Tijjaniyya community and the entire Muslim Ummah over this monumental loss.

He prayed to Almighty Allah to grant the eminent scholar eternal rest and reward his lifetime of devotion with Aljannat Firdaus.

Also mourning the deceased is Bashir Ahmad, a former aide to the late President Muhammadu Buhari, who confirmed the development in a post on X.

“It is with a heavy heart and complete submission to the will of Allah (SAW) that we receive the news of the passing of our revered leader, Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi, one of the leaders of the Tijjaniyya order in Nigeria,” he wrote.

He added a prayer, saying, “May Allah forgive his shortcomings, accept his noble deeds and grant him Jannatul Firdaus. Ameen.”

The scholar’s son, Sayyadi Ali Dahiru Usman Bauchi, also confirmed the death in comments to Daily Trust.

“It is confirmed. Sheikh has returned to his creator. We are all from Allah and to Him we shall all return,” he said. “It is time for Sheikh to rest. We thank Almighty Allah. Allah has done everything for us to spare the life of Sheikh till this time. Sheikh’s life was well spent. Alhamdulillah.”

He stated that he was in Madinah and could not confirm whether the burial would take place in Abuja or Bauchi.
