Chairman of the Northern States Governors’ Forum (NSGF), Governor Simon Lalong of Plateau, has assured the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) Forum in the 19 Northern states of NSGF’s collaboration towards tackling the challenges of the region and nation at large.

Lalong stated this, yesterday, when he received the new ALGON leadership at the Government House, Rayfield, Jos, who visited him.

Led by the Chairman, Bala Chamo, who doubles as Jigawa ALGON boss, the delegation said they were at the Government House, Jos, to pay homage to the NSGF chairman for his passion to develop the local council system.

Chamo recalled that Lalong was among the first governors to grant financial autonomy to local councils, state legislature and judiciary in the country.

He described Lalong as a man of peace and a committed leader, who had done so much to restore peace to Plateau by adopting an inclusive governance system that gives voice to all shades of opinions.

Responding, Lalong congratulated the new ALGON leaders, adding that the body would be very useful in working with the governors towards addressing key challenges of the North and Nigeria at large.

According to him, so far, there is a cordial working relationship between the governors and traditional rulers, youths, captains of industry among others in addressing the challenges of poverty, illiteracy, insecurity, diseases among others.

He added: “As leaders at the grassroots level, the Northern ALGON Forum stands in a good position to contribute to finding lasting solutions to the region’s economic and security problems by working with all stakeholders, especially the governors.”

The delegation also had the ALGON Chairman of Plateau from Shendam Local Council, Miskoom Naantuam, and other Board of Trustees (BoT) members in attendance.
