Army deploys special forces intervention battalion to tackle insecurity in Plateau

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt-Gen Waidi Shaibu, has approved the immediate deployment of the Chief of Army Staff Intervention Battalion of Special Forces to Plateau State to address the recent resurgence of terrorist attacks.

The troops were received at the Headquarters of 3 Division by the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Division and Commander, Joint Task Force Operation Enduring Peace, Maj-Gen Folusho Oyinlola, represented by the Chief of Staff, Operation Enduring Peace, Brig-Gen Senlong Sule.

Oyinlola urged the troops to be decisive in carrying out offensive operations against criminal elements and commended the COAS for providing the necessary combat enablers and logistics to support the mission.

In a statement issued by the Media Information Officer, Joint Task Force Operation Enduring Peace, Capt Chinonso Polycarp Oteh, the GOC also appealed to residents not to panic over increased troop movements and the deployment of heavy military equipment.

He thanked citizens, describing their continued support for the military as vital and called for sustained cooperation through the provision of timely intelligence to aid ongoing operations aimed at restoring peace in the state.
