Operatives of the Niger State Police Command have arrested a suspect alleged to have killed a vigilante member and fled since 2024.
The command’s spokesman, Wasiu Abiodun, disclosed this in a statement, adding that the suspects would be charged to court after investigations.
The suspect, Sudais Zakari of Angwan-Roka, Minna, was arrested alongside Danjuma Idris of Maitumbi on suspicion of robbery. Zakari was alleged to have fled after killing Ibrahim Yahaya, also known as Danladi Baushe, a vigilante member in Maitumbi, in April 2024.
Police said preliminary investigations indicated that Zakari also participated in several armed robbery incidents in the Maitumbi area in 2025.
The command stated: “On February 7, 2026 at 10:30 p.m., police operatives attached to Maitumbi Division, led by the DPO with vigilante members, stormed some criminal hideouts around the Maitumbi area. In the process, one Sudais Zakari of Angwan-Roka and Danjuma Idris of Maitumbi were arrested.
“Sudais has been on the run for various crimes, including the culpable homicide of one Ibrahim Yahaya a.k.a Danladi Baushe, a member of a vigilante group in Maitumbi. The incident occurred sometime in April 2024. Preliminary investigation further revealed that the said Sudais had participated in several armed robbery incidents in Maitumbi area in 2025.”
The police added that Idris was arrested with breaking tools including a bolt cutter, machete, screwdriver, plier, bunch of keys, face cap and a bag suspected to have been stolen.
The command further stated: “February 8, 2026 at about 3:00 a.m., one Aji Gana was also intercepted and arrested around Maitumbi Roundabout by Operation Flush patrol team, and when searched, the following items were found in his possession: a cutlass, one pitcher, a bunch of keys, a plier, screwdriver, and two handsets.”
The police reiterated that the suspects would be charged to court after investigation.
