The Plateau State chapter of the Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI) has strongly condemned the recent resurgence of violence in Riyom and Barkin Ladi local governments, which has tragically claimed many lives, including the lives of four innocent Muslim travellers.
The senseless and inhumane act is a painful reminder of the urgent need to address insecurity and protect the sanctity of human life, regardless of identity or background. These are the views of the Emir of Wase and Chairman, JNI, Plateau State, Alhaji Mohammadu Sambo II, in a statement on Wednesday.
According to the statement, such acts of brutality not only deepen divisions but also threaten the fragile peace and coexistence that communities in Plateau State have long strived to maintain.
“No grievance or circumstance can justify the taking of innocent lives. We call on the government at all levels, as well as security agencies, to act swiftly and decisively to address the situation.
“There must be proactive and sustained measures to prevent further violence, ensure the safety of travellers and residents and bring perpetrators to justice. Intelligence gathering, rapid response mechanisms and community engagement must be strengthened to forestall future occurrences,” the statement said.
At this critical time, the statement urged community and religious leaders, as well as citizens, to remain calm and resist the urge to retaliate, as peace, dialogue, and mutual understanding remain the only viable path toward lasting stability.
