N3b Damaturu market to boost local, regional trade, commerce

As part of efforts towards boosting local and regional trade as well as commerce within and outside Yobe, the state governor, Mai Mala Buni, has unveiled a N3 billion ultra-modern market in Damaturu, the state capital.

The market, which would serve well over 5,000 traders and merchants from within and outside the state, was received with excitement as the traders said it would not just improve trading activities significantly, but it would also improve their living conditions.

The recently commissioned market by the state government was opened to traders in Damaturu and will provide an organised and business-friendly environment for commerce.

Hauwa Mai Isa, a food items vendor, said the market has already resolved long-standing challenges faced by thousands of market women in the state.

Similarly, poultry feed distributor, Luka Yohanna, described it as a timely economic intervention that would attract more customers and other business partners in the Northeast.

Falmata Abatcha, a millet and wheat trader, noted that the improved facilities would attract more investors into the trade and tourism sectors of the state economy. She added that it would also encourage youths to invest in small-scale businesses to helpt ackle poverty and unemployment in the state.
