Operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) have arrested a 25-year-old woman, Nafisa Usman, who was in possession of 220 rounds of ammunition concealed in garri in Kano.
Usman, a native of Zango Village in Kankara Local Council of Katsina State, was intercepted at a motor park while taking delivery of the ammunition, a security source disclosed.
The alleged criminal suspect, after an intelligence report, was apprehended along with bags of garri where she concealed the ammunition and some naira notes.
Usman, while speaking with journalists at the State Command of the DSS, confessed to have received the supply of the ammunition through a military officer from Lafia in Nasarawa State.
Although she revealed she had never met with the military officer, Usman claimed she mostly takes delivery of the ammunition in various quantities at Unguwa Uku Motor Park in Kano.
Narrating how she operates her supply chain,
The suspect confessed her trade supply to bandits operating in Katsina State through a man she identified as Mallam Haruna.
She asserted that Haruna, who usually collects the ammunition for onward transmission to bandits in Kankara Forest, Katsina State, had always been chosen for the supply business.
She further said that she had been involved in the trade for about two months, adding that one “Teso,” whom she described as working with a soldier in Lafia, used to send the consignments to her.
Usman claimed to have conducted transactions worth about N5 million, supplying ammunition to Haruna and other individuals identified as Buba and Abu, who were also said to be operating in the forest.
The suspect expressed regret over her involvement, stating that she had now been exposed.
