Again, gunmen kill traditional ruler in Ebonyi

Barely one month after gunmen killed the traditional ruler of Ndufu-Alike Ikwo, Eze Francis Igwe, another traditional ruler, Jehoshaphat Ikegwu of Ishinkwor community, Onicha Local Council of Ebonyi State, has been killed by gunmen.

It was gathered that the traditional ruler was killed on Wednesday night after the assailants invaded his palace and shot him through the window.

Chairman of Onicha Local Council, Ikechukwu Ogbofia, while confirming the killing, condemned the incident, describing it as shocking and devastating.

He said that the police had started investigating the killings and urged the people of the community to remain calm.

Ikegwu’s killing has brought the total number of monarchs killed in the state to five.

Last month, the traditional ruler of Ndufu-Alike community in Ikwo Local Council was killed after he was abducted. His body was set ablaze by the kidnappers.

About nine suspects were arrested in connection to the crime but nothing has been heard about them.
