Police in Ogun State have arrested two suspected cattle rustlers, Mohammed Mosque and Olaseinde Olatunji for allegedly stealing cow valued at ₦1,700,000.00 at a dairy farm located at Ibogun in Ifo Local council of the state.
The suspects, who were arrested on Thursday at about 2:30 am, invaded the the farm located at Omitoro Village via Coker, Ibogun, with a knife and operational vehicle and stole the cow.
Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi confirmed this to newsmen in a statement in Abeokuta the state capital, yesterday,
Babaseyi said that the suspect were arrested following a distress call which prompted operatives of SWAT to act mobilize to the scene and nabbed the suspects who were attempting to escape with a mini bus popularly called ‘Korope’.
He said that according to preliminary investigation revealed that the two arrested suspects were part of a four-man gang operations whose two other accomplices escaped into the surrounding bush.
The Police PRO said that exhibits recovered include one (1) stolen cow, one (1) knife, and the operational mini bus used in perpetrating the crime.
He noted that the operational vehicle has been recovered and secured at the Ibogun SWAT office while stolen cow was also recovered, and photographed for evidential purposes, and released to the owner after receiving necessary attention.
“The suspects are currently in custody, while investigation is ongoing. Efforts are being intensified to track down and apprehend the fleeing members of the gang. The case will be transferred to the appropriate investigative unit for further discreet investigation and prosecution.” he added.
The Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, however commended the swift response of the operatives and assures that the Command remains resolute in its commitment to rid the State of criminal elements.
