The Yobe State Police Command has arrested four suspected drug dealers and recovered dozens of tramadol capsules and other illicit substances during a raid on a criminal hideout in Kolere community, Fune Local Council of the state.
The command said the operation formed part of renewed efforts to combat crime and criminality across the state.
Spokesperson for the command, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, disclosed in a statement issued in Damaturu that police operatives recorded a major breakthrough following a crackdown on criminal hideouts in Kolere village.
He said: “The police have continued to record significant breakthroughs following a successful crackdown on notorious drug dealers and criminal hideouts in Kolere village of the local council.”
Abdulkarim explained that operatives attached to the Area Command, Potiskum, carried out a coordinated raid on May 6, 2026, at about 3:00 p.m. in Borno Kichi market, described as a notorious hideout for criminal gangs allegedly involved in drug peddling and harbouring criminal elements.
According to him, four suspects identified as Nafizu Adamu, 25; Babale Idi, 25; Shuaibu Mohammed, 35; and Shuaibu Musa, 22, were arrested during the operation.
He added that the suspects were found in possession of tramadol capsules, assorted hard drug tablets, Indian hemp and rubber solution popularly known as “Sholi”.
The police spokesperson stated that all the suspects are residents of Kolere village in Fune Local Council.
Commissioner of Police in the state, Usman Kanfani Jibrin, commended the operatives for the successful operation and directed officers across the state to sustain the offensive against criminal syndicates and related crimes.
He warned criminals to desist from unlawful activities or face the full weight of the law, adding that an investigation into the matter is ongoing and the suspects would be charged to court upon completion of investigation.
Meanwhile, operatives of the Special Area Rumudomaya, also known as Rumuokoro Police Division, under the Rivers State Police Command, have arrested a man identified simply as Mr Goodnews over the alleged defilement of his neighbour’s 16-year-old daughter in Obio/Akpor Local Council of Rivers State.
A family friend to the victim’s parents, Mr Chidi Obulor, said the incident occurred on Monday, May 4, 2026, along Apu Road, Rupokwu.
According to Obulor, the suspect, said to be in his late twenties and residing in the same compound as the victim’s family, allegedly lured the teenager into his apartment under the pretext of sending her on an errand before sexually assaulting her.
He stated that the victim’s parents immediately reported the matter to the police.
“Following the formal complaint made by the parents of the girl, operatives of Special Area Rumudomaya swung into action and arrested the suspect,” Obulor said.
The victim was reportedly taken to a nearby hospital for medical examination and treatment.
The spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Agabe Blessing, confirmed the arrest and said investigation had commenced.
At press time, the suspect had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) in Port Harcourt for further investigation into the allegations.
