11 people were on Sunday night killed in a fatal lone auto crash that occurred at Eruku Bridge along the Abeokuta-Lagos Expressway in Ogun State.
Vehicle involved in the accident is a Gold Toyota with registration number :GGE722KJ.
Spokesperson of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Afolabi Odunsi confirmed this to newsmen in a statement in Abeokuta on Monday.
Odunsi said that 11 occupants (10 adult males and 1 adult female) of the vehicle lost their lives in the crash.
He said that the cause of the crash
was due to the driver Driving Under the Influence (DUI) and Overloading (OVL) which made the vehicle somersaulted and fell off the bridge, trapping the occupants inside as the doors locked upon impact.
The superintendent route commander said that it took the help of members of the local community to dismantled the vehicle and recover the bodies.
He said that the dead bodies had been moved to the Ogun State Specialist Hospital Morgue in Ifo.
The Sector Commander, Corps Commander Oludare Ogunjobi advised travelers on the Abeokuta-Lagos route to exercise extreme caution, especially when driving at night.
He however expressed his heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased.
