The World Sustainable Development Goals Organization has appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to consider Kano philanthropist and business mogul, Ambassador Abdussalam Abdulkarim Zaura (A.A. Zaura), for a federal appointment ease political tensions within the All Progressives Congress (APC), in the state.
The call follows a leadership crisis within APC in Kano Central Senatorial District, which resulted in Zaura being denied the party’s senatorial flag bearership.
In a statement issued on Saturday, by the international body’s Head of Administration, Dr Emmanuel Daudu, the group noted Zaura’s extensive humanitarian and economic contributions across Kano State especially his distribution of over 200 vehicles, 1,000 motorcycles for youth empowerment, and 150 electricity transformers to rural communities.
According to the organisation’s Political and Peace Desk, protests and violent unrest erupted across parts of Kano Central following Zaura’s displacement from the ticket, tragically leading to loss of lives.
The statement emphasised that the ongoing instability directly compromises United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions) as well as Goal 15 (Life on Land).
“In view of these concerns, the organisation believes it has become necessary to call on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to urgently intervene by considering A.A. Zaura for a federal appointment as a strategic step toward calming tensions and restoring confidence among the people of Kano Central Senatorial District,” Daudu advised
Despite losing the ticket, the global body commended Zaura for maintaining his loyalty to the APC and continuing to back President Tinubu’s second term bid and the incumbent Governor of Kano State describing his restraint as a demonstration of “political maturity.
The organisation concluded that a federal appointment would serve as a strategic peace building measure.
“Granting him a federal appointment would serve as a well deserved recognition of his contributions to society and the nation at large while also promoting peace and stability in Kano Central Senatorial District,” Daudu stated.
