In a landslide victory, Osagie Ize-Iyamu on Monday emerged as the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Edo South Senatorial District ahead of the 2027 National Assembly elections.

Ize-Iyamu clinched the party’s ticket after defeating his closest rivals, Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama and incumbent Senator Neda Imasuen, in the APC primary election conducted across the 77 wards in the seven Local Government Areas that make up Edo South Senatorial District.

Reports from correspondents indicated a massive turnout of party members during the exercise held across the district. As early as 9:00 a.m., eligible voters were seen queuing at polling centres in Oredo, Egor, Ikpoba-Okha, Ovia North-East, Ovia South-West, Uhunmwonde, and Orhionmwon Local Government Areas, reflecting widespread participation in the party’s internal democratic process.

Following the collation of results, the Chief Returning Officer, Abubakar Muhammad Kabiru, officially declared Ize-Iyamu the winner after securing the highest number of votes cast.

Announcing the final results, Kabiru said Ize-Iyamu polled 33,399 votes to emerge victorious, while Ogbeide-Ihama garnered 12,560 votes and Imasuen received 5,107 votes.

Reacting to the outcome, an elated Ize-Iyamu expressed appreciation to party supporters and pledged to provide quality representation if elected in the general election.

Officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) were present to observe the conduct of the primary election across the various local government areas in Edo South Senatorial District.

The victory marks a significant milestone for Ize-Iyamu as he now prepares to fly the APC flag in the senatorial election and intensify efforts toward securing victory in the 2027 general polls.
