Evelyn Oyome was once again the overall gross winner at the 2026 Ikoyi Club Ladies Championship, reaffirming her dominance in women’s golf. She finished the competition with a combined gross score of 170 at the two-day tournament held at Ikoyi Club 1938 in Lagos.
Oyome carded 85 on both days of the championship to emerge champion ahead of Pat Ozoemene, who finished first runner-up with 174, while Ifeoma Obata secured second runner-up position with 185.
The championship, themed “Swing & Par-Tea in Colours,” attracted over 70 female golfers competing across various handicap categories in a stroke-play format.
Speaking at the event, Lady Captain of Ikoyi Club 1938 Golf Section, Annie Eimiakhena, said the competition was designed not only to identify the best female golfer in the club but also to strengthen unity and friendship among members.
“The championship occurs once in a year. More or less, we’re trying to see who is the best lady golfer among us,” Eimiakhena said.
She explained that golfers had to meet specific qualification requirements before participating in the championship, adding that guest players were also invited to broaden participation.
According to her, beyond the competitive aspect, the tournament was also aimed at promoting values of integrity and community service.
Oyome, who has now won the ladies’ championship multiple times, attributed her consistency to discipline, passion and regular practice.
“Golf is life,” she said, adding, “I was introduced into golf because I’ve always been a sports person. When I started playing, I made sure I played with the men and professionals. I stayed focused and I loved the game.”
Other winners in the overall gross category included Ronke Iyiola, who finished sixth with 195, Pauline Onafowokan in fifth with 188, and Seline Hainsworth in fourth place also with 188 on countback.
