Port Harcourt is set for a blend of sport, business networking and economic activity as the 2026 Norrenberger International Golf Classic tees off at the Python International Golf Club.
Backed by Norrenberger Financial Group, the tournament is already generating excitement among golf enthusiasts, corporate executives and stakeholders who see the event as more than just a sporting competition.
Speaking during a press briefing in Port Harcourt, officials of the club and organisers described the tournament as a platform that will drive tourism, empower youths and strengthen business relationships in Rivers State.
Competition Secretary of the club, Mr. Bako Emmanuel, said over 140 golfers are expected to participate in the tournament, alongside caddies and visitors whose presence is expected to boost commercial activities across the state.
According to him, the event will also serve as a talent discovery platform for young people interested in golf, with opportunities for training and scholarship support for promising players.
He noted that many of the materials and consumables for the competition would be sourced locally, creating direct economic benefits for businesses in the state.
Also speaking, Mr. Loveday Deemua of the Python International Golf Club described golf as a sport that encourages meaningful interaction among professionals and corporate leaders.
He explained that the tournament would attract influential personalities from Nigeria’s public and private sectors, creating an environment for networking and strategic partnerships.
Deemua added that the club, founded in 1987, is preparing ahead of its 40th anniversary celebration next year.
On the corporate side, Mr. Ekene Okechukwu, South South Regional Head of Norrenberger Asset Management, said the tournament reflects the company’s commitment to promoting healthy living, mental wellness and financial growth.
He described golf as a game built on patience, discipline and long-term strategy — values he said also define smart financial planning.
The tournament, scheduled for Saturday, May 23, 2026, will feature 12 trophies across different categories, including Men, Ladies, Veterans and Guests, alongside cash rewards and consolation prizes.
Meanwhile, Associate Director for Strategy and Sustainability at Norrenberger Financial Group, Mr. Amani Momodu, said the organisation plans to expand the competition in future editions with the vision of turning it into one of Nigeria’s premier golf events.
He expressed optimism that the competition could eventually attract international golf stars and elevate Port Harcourt’s status as a destination for elite sporting events.
