Oyo suspends school excursions, outdoor activities over rising security concerns

Governor Seyi Makinde

The Oyo State Government has suspended all school excursions, field trips, inter-school sports competitions, and other activities requiring students to move outside school premises due to rising security concerns in parts of the state.

The directive, issued by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, takes immediate effect and applies to both public and private schools across Oyo State.

According to the government, the decision is a precautionary measure aimed at safeguarding the lives of students and school staff following recent security incidents that have heightened fear among residents, especially after attacks reported in parts of Ogbomoso and surrounding communities.

Education authorities directed school administrators to strictly comply with the order and ensure that all academic and extracurricular activities are confined within school premises until further notice.

The circular also instructed schools to remain vigilant and report any suspicious movements around school environments to relevant security agencies.

Officials stressed that the safety of learners remains the government’s top priority, adding that the suspension will be reviewed once the security situation improves.

The development has sparked concern among parents and stakeholders, particularly over the impact on academic outings and extracurricular learning activities.
