The inaugural Pastor Emily Aig-Imoukhuede Memorial Lecture will be held on Monday, June 8, 2026, at the MUSON Centre, Lagos, as part of activities to commemorate the fifth memorial anniversary of the late Pastor Emily Okhenren Aig-Imoukhuede.
The lecture, themed “Leadership and Service to God, Country, and Humanity,” will be delivered by the Most Revd (Dr) Matthew Hassan Kukah, Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Sokoto and one of Africa’s most respected voices on faith, leadership, justice, and nation-building.
The event will be chaired by a distinguished entrepreneur, banker, investor, and statesman, Fola Adeola, whose contributions to business development, public policy, and leadership across Africa have earned him widespread respect and admiration.
However, the memorial lecture has been established to honour and preserve the values that defined the life and legacy of Pastor Emily Aig-Imoukhuede— faith, integrity, selfless service, compassion, excellence, and an unwavering commitment to the advancement of the society. It is envisioned as an enduring platform for reflection on leadership, citizenship, nation-building, and service to humanity.
Also, the memorial lecture, therefore, serves not only as a tribute to an extraordinary life but also as a call to action for Nigerians to embrace the values of ethical leadership, service, responsibility, and national renewal that Pastor Emily Aig-Imoukhuede embodied throughout her life.
Aig-Imoukhuede, who passed on to glory on June 8, 2021, lived an exemplary life devoted to God, family, community, and country. Renowned for her warmth, generosity, and strength of character, she touched countless lives through her service, philanthropy, mentorship, and leadership.
A distinguished alumna of the University of Ibadan (UI), where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in History (Second Class Upper Division), Pastor Emily built an accomplished career spanning education, the arts, public administration, private enterprise, and public service.
Her professional journey took her from the classroom to the National Museum where she served as a curator before she went on to establish one of Nigeria’s pioneering private art galleries. She also served as National President of the National Council for Women Societies (NCWS), providing leadership to one of Nigeria’s foremost women’s organisations.
Today, her legacy continues to inspire future generations through various initiatives dedicated to promoting excellence in public service and leadership. Among these is the Emily Aig-Imoukhuede Memorial Award, established by the Aig-Imoukhuede Foundation to recognise and celebrate outstanding performance, integrity, and commitment within Nigeria’s public service.
