The Air Component of Operation Fansan Yamma (OPFY) has smashed a 300-motorcycle bandit convoy on a mission to unleash attacks on innocent civilians in some Katsina State communities on July 7, 2026, neutralising dozens.

The Air Component intercepted the large group of terrorists moving from the Sunke – Kumbo axis towards Bayazaki riverine area to Gummi, and deployed three air platforms along the terrorists’ axis of advance.

According to the Media Information Officer, Operation Fansan Yamma, Lt.-Col. Aliyu Danja, on sighting the air assets, the terrorists attempted to flee for cover under trees but were successfully engaged and dozens neutralised with precision airstrikes, thwarting their nefarious plan.

Danja also said that troops of Sector 2 on a fighting patrol engaged terrorists along the Danmusa–Yantumaki axis in Danmusa Local Government Area, overwhelmed and forced them to abandon their position and fled.

He said that in Zamfara State, troops responded to an attack on farmers around Dogon Kade and neutralised a notorious terrorist commander Alhaji Tukur, a younger brother of terrorist kingpin Alhaji Shehu Bagiwaye, while several other terrorists sustained gunshot wounds and fled the area.

Similarly, Danja said that the troops responded to another impending terrorist attack on communities in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area, adding that in collaboration with local security volunteers, they engaged the terrorists in a fierce gun battle, repelled and forced the attackers to retreat with several casualties.

“In a separate operation at Sabon Gari, also in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area, troops mobilised swiftly following reports of terrorist attacks,” he said, explaining that on sighting the advancing troops, the terrorists abandoned their mission and fled into nearby bushes as subsequent exploitation of the area led to the neutralisation of one terrorist.

He said in the separate operations, arms, ammunition and motorcycles were recovered.
