Sowore releases update on Zainab Sodiq’s detention

Activist Omoyele Sowore

Human rights activist and publisher, Omoyele Sowore, has shared a fresh update on the detention of journalist Zainab Sodiq, who he earlier identified as a personal journalist assisting him with news coverage.

According to Sowore’s latest post, Marshal D. F. Abubakar visited the DSS headquarters this evening to inquire about her release but was allegedly informed that the Director-General of the DSS, Tosin Ajayi, was unhappy that Sowore publicly raised concerns over Zainab Sodiq’s arrest.

Sowore alleged that the DSS has now decided not to release her because the issue was made public.

The development has continued to generate conversations around press freedom, the safety of journalists, and the rights of media practitioners carrying out their duties.

More updates to follow.
