Minister of Defence, Gen. Christopher Musa (Rtd), has commended security agencies for the successful rescue of 44 pupils and teachers abducted from three schools in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, describing the operation as a landmark achievement in intelligence-led security operations.
In a statement, the Minister praised the efforts of the military, Nigeria Police Force (NPF), Department of State Services (DSS), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), National Security Adviser (NSA) Tactical Team, and other security and paramilitary agencies for securing the victims’ safe release on July 10, 2026.
The victims were kidnapped from Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Yawota, Community High School, Ahoro-Esinele, and L.A. Primary School, Ahoro-Esinele, all located in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
Musa described the operation as a textbook example of modern, intelligence-driven security operations, noting that the seamless collaboration among the various security agencies demonstrated exceptional professionalism, courage and commitment to protecting lives and property.
“The successful mission underscores the effectiveness of enhanced inter-agency cooperation and reflects the dedication and sacrifices of security personnel working under difficult conditions to safeguard the nation and defend its territorial integrity,” he said.
The Minister celebrated the successful rescue, and as well paid tribute to security personnel who lost their lives during the operation, describing them as courageous heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to the nation.
He also extended heartfelt condolences to their families, assuring them that the Federal Government remains committed to the welfare of the families of fallen heroes.
Musa reaffirmed President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to strengthening the operational capabilities of the Armed Forces and other security agencies under the Renewed Hope Agenda through sustained investments in modern military platforms, intelligence gathering, specialised training and enhanced inter-agency collaboration.
He said the ongoing investments are already producing positive results in the fight against terrorism, insurgency, banditry, kidnapping and other violent crimes across the country.
Musa urged military commanders and security operatives across all theatres of operation to sustain the momentum and replicate the same level of coordination and tactical excellence in ongoing operations nationwide.
He also thanked the Oyo State Government and residents for their cooperation during the rescue mission and appealed to Nigerians to remain vigilant by providing timely and credible intelligence to security agencies, reiterating the Ministry’s commitment to supporting the nation’s security architecture in building a safer and more secure Nigeria.
