Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of veteran journalist and Delta State Correspondent of News Direct, Comrade Dave Okpogadie, describing his passing as a monumental loss to the journalism profession and the state.

 

Okpogadie reportedly died on Saturday after a prolonged and courageous battle with jaw cancer, an illness he battled for more than two years.

 

In a condolence statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ekpen Ahon, Governor Oborevwori extended his heartfelt sympathies to the deceased’s family, the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Delta State Council, colleagues in the media industry and all those affected by the veteran journalist’s demise.

 

The governor paid glowing tribute to the late Okpogadie, describing him as a dedicated and consummate professional whose commitment to ethical journalism, integrity and service earned him widespread respect and admiration within and outside the media community.

 

According to the governor, Okpogadie distinguished himself through years of diligent reportage and unwavering dedication to informing the public, making invaluable contributions to journalism and democratic development in Delta State and Nigeria at large.

 

Governor Oborevwori also commended the late journalist’s courage and resilience in the face of his prolonged illness, noting that his steadfast faith and determination throughout his health challenges inspired many colleagues, friends and supporters who stood by him during his difficult journey.

 

“The passing of Comrade Dave Okpogadie is a painful loss, not only to his immediate family but also to the media profession and Delta State as a whole.

 

He served with dedication and professionalism and will be remembered for his invaluable contributions to journalism,” the governor stated.

 

He prayed for the peaceful repose of the soul of the departed journalist and urged members of the media community to uphold the values of professionalism and commitment for which the late Okpogadie was known.

 

Governor Oborevwori further prayed that God would grant the bereaved family, friends, colleagues and members of the NUJ Delta State Council the strength and fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
