The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), RS2.2 Ogun Sector Command, has prosecuted 63 motorists before a Mobile Court in Sagamu for various traffic offences as part of its Special Intervention Patrol, code-named “Operation ABO, Safe Passage.”

The offenders were arraigned before Magistrate Fisayo W. Okuboyejo, who convicted all 63 offenders, with no case discharged or adjourned.

Spokesperson of FRSC, Ogun Command, SRC Afolabi Odunsi who confirmed this to newsmen in Abeokuta, said that a total of 135 offences were recorded during the exercise.

Odunsi mentioned the offenses to include: Speed Limiting Device (SLD) – 31; Driver’s Licence Violation (DLV) – 20; Overloading (OVL) – 15; Vehicle Licence Violation (VLV) – 13; Light/Signal Violation (LSV) – 11; Seat Belt/Use Violation (SUV) – 9; Number Plate Violation (NPV) – 7; Wrongful Vehicle Violation (VWV) – 7; Certificate of Roadworthiness Violation (CSV) – 5 ; Fire Extinguisher Violation (FEV) – 5
Others are: Tyre Violation (TYY) – 5; Dangerous Driving (DGD) – 3;Passenger Loading Offence (PLE) – 2;Fake Number Plate/FFF – 2;Child Restraint/ACS – 1;Failure to Comply with Marshal’s Directive (FCM) – 1;Vehicle Mirror Violation (VMV) – 1.

Odunsi noted that the most common traffic offence recorded was the violation of the Speed Limiting Device (SLD) regulation, with 31 cases recorded.

He said the figure reflects the persistent non-compliance with speed management rules by some motorists, despite the vital role speed limiting devices play in reducing the risk of road traffic crashes.

The Sector Commander, CC Oludare Ogunjobi, reaffirmed that the Special Intervention Patrol is aimed at reducing road traffic crashes through sustained enforcement, public enlightenment, and strict prosecution of offenders.

Ogundare warned motorists to comply with all traffic regulations, emphasizing that violations that endanger lives will attract appropriate sanctions.

He lauded the judiciary, security agencies, and the motoring public, for their support and urgesd all road users to cooperate with FRSC personnel to achieve safer roads for everyone.
