The Chairman of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Ogun State, Femi Alao, yesterday raised alarm over the alleged hijacking of the party’s WhatsApp social media platform by former members whom he described as “dissidents” and “disloyal” to the party.
Alao, who disclosed this shortly after Stakeholders meeting at the party’s Secretariat at Ijemo- Agbadu, Abeokuta, urged candidates and current party members to distance themselves from the platform and refrain from associating with the activities of former members.
He noted that the platform was formed based on the unity enjoyed within the party but was surprised when some people who feel aggrieved hijacked the platform after leaving the party for All Progressive Congress because the party’s leadership did not allow them to control its activities.
He explained that the platform was established to promote the unity that existed within the party, but was surprised when the ex-members who felt aggrieved took over the platform because the party leadership had allegedly refused to let them dominate its affairs.
The Chairman said “The Whatsapp group platform was hijacked and as at the time the platform was formed we believe we are all one and later it got to a stage where one or two people feel that aggrieved and left the party because initially one won’t have given them that opportunity but as at the time we detect their misdeeds we felt let them go”
“Since the official leadership of the party under my chairmanship had observed that the platform had been hijacked I should be able to give the instructions that all the candidates and other members should exit from that platform.
“It is not good for you to have some dissidents in the party, especially those that don’t have loyalty. And again I am encouraging all the local government chairmen to embrace new people coming into party and allow them in its fold”. he added.
Similarly, the State Secretary of the Party Alhaji Waheed Alapoti, who said that the party wish the aggrieved members well in their new APC party, charged the party’s members not to associate themselves with them, while calling on the to join the new Whatsapp Platform of the party.
