The Wings Schools, Iwo, on Saturday, July 25, held its 10th valedictory service and end of the year ceremony at Dove Event Centre, Oluponna Road, Iwo, with speakers emphasising ethical values, academic excellence and good character.

Delivering the guest lecture on the theme, “Ethics”, the pioneer Provost of the Federal College of Education, Iwo, Prof Rafiu Adebayo, described ethics as the ability to distinguish between right and wrong.

He stressed that quality training and the engagement of competent professionals are essential in every field, noting that proper education enables people to recognise important distinctions across various fields.

Prof Adebayo also commended the Proprietor of the school, Prof Lai Olurode, for establishing and effectively managing the institution. He urged the graduating students to uphold good values and remain focused in pursuit of their future academic aspirations.

Speaking at the event, the Principal of the school, Mr Kayode Sanusi, expressed gratitude for the outstanding performance recorded in the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, revealing that more than 85 per cent of the candidates scored 250 and above.

He also celebrated an alumnus of the school, Olurode AbdulRasak, who emerged as the recipient of the Imole Scholarship Award for recording the best West African Senior School Certificate Examination result in Iwo Local Council in 2024.

Sanusi highlighted the school’s participation in several academic competitions at the local and state levels during the 2025 to 2026 academic session. He urged the graduands to embrace three ethical pillars, which are reliance on Allah, good character and using their knowledge and skills to positively impact society. According to him, success without ethics is temporary, while success built on ethical values is enduring.

The Chairman of The Wings Schools Governing Board, Alhaji Remi Situ, appealed to parents to sustain their confidence in the school through continued support and partnership. He also admonished the graduands to remain worthy ambassadors of the institution by upholding the values of hard work, honesty, discipline and zero tolerance for examination malpractice.

The highlight of the ceremony was the presentation of a scholarship award to the highest UTME scorer and one of the most outstanding graduands, Akanni Sofiyah, who scored over 320 in the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination. The award was presented by the Akire of Ikire Ile, Oba AbdulAzeez Olatunbosun, who later offered prayers alongside the Olupo of Oluponna, Oba Rafiu Mosobalaje.
