THE Criminal Investigation Department of the Nigerian Police Force has declared the publisher of Secret reporters, an online newspaper, Tega Sampson, wanted over alleged cyberstalking and defamation.

 

Recall, the Police Force had earlier arrested SecretsReporters journalist, Stanley Ugagbe who is staff of the media outfit over same allegations .

 

Barely a week after , the National Cyber Crime Center arm of the Police Force summoned the Publisher of the media outfit to appear over allegations of espionage, cyber stalking and computer related offences .

 

The Publisher who is currently on asylum in the United States of America had told The Guardian that the arrest was a threat to journalism and called for a repeal of the Cyber crime law.

 

The publisher said his asylum in the United States of America (USA) was also as result continued harassment and threats to life .

 

He had told The Guardian that cyber crime law only only seeks to frustrate journalists from carrying out their professional duties as he expressed concerns that it was a military model copied from Singapore ,stressing that the Nigerian Police remains the only agency still using the law in Nigeria to harass and intimidate journalists .

 

Police in a letter dated July 5,2026 obtained by The Guardian ,had summoned the publisher of SecretsReporters to appear on Wednesday before Deputy commissioner of Police and deputy Director of operations , Olufemi Akinolay for an interview .

 

The letter was entitled: Investigation Activities/letter of invitation”reads :

“The Center is investigating a case of espionage , cyber stalking and computer related offences in which your name featured prominently .

 

“In view of the above ,you are kindly requested to report at the center for an interview with the undersigned through the Assistant Director , Defense and Protection Unit ,NPF-NCCC,Abuja as scheduled below.”

 

The declaration, was gathered was as result of a report titled: “Exclusive”: CBN Deputy Governor Emem Usoro linked to N3.6bn Los Angeles property amid questions over asset declaration compliance (Part 2).”

 

The Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Emem Usoro was alleged to have made a petition that the published information about her was false .

 

 

The Police declaration contained on the Special Police Gazette Bulletin is marked CR:3000/DTS/x/Dols/No.9/126, declared Tega Sampson Ogbenedoro wanted over allegations of cyberstalking and defamation by the Nigerian Police Force , office of the Deputy Commissioner of Police , Criminal Investigation Department (CID) , Edo state command.

 

A message sent to the Police Force Public Relations Officer Anietie Okokon by The Guardian for confirmation was not responded as at the time of filling this report.
