Auto firm hits one million sales in three years

Omoda & Jaecoo

A Chinese automobile brand, Omoda & Jaecoo, has surpassed one million cumulative vehicle sales in just three years.

The feat marks one of the fastest growth trajectories in the global automotive industry and intensifies its competition with long-established manufacturers across Europe, Asia and Australia.

The Chief Executive Officer of Omoda & Jaecoo International, Shawn Xu, stated this at the 19th Beijing International Auto Show in China.

The sister brands, owned by China’s Chery Automobile, have expanded rapidly into 64 countries, posting record sales and securing significant market share in some of the world’s most competitive automobile markets.

Xu said that one of the brand’s biggest breakthroughs came from the United Kingdom, one of Europe’s most mature and brand-conscious automotive markets.

The statistics indicated that Omoda and Jaecoo recorded 48,087 new vehicle registrations in the UK in 2025, accounting for 2.38 per cent of the market, having entered the market in 2024.

The Jaecoo 7 SUV has been central to that success. The model finished 2025 as the UK’s fourth-most-popular retail vehicle before emerging as Britain’s best-selling new car in March 2026.

Within just 19 months of launching in the UK, the two brands sold more than 80,000 vehicles, reflecting how quickly British consumers have embraced the newcomers, Xu said.

Also, in Europe, Omoda and Jaecoo sold more than 340,000 vehicles within two years by June 2026, earning recognition as the continent’s fastest-growing automotive brands.

Australia has also emerged as a key growth market. Barely a year after entering the country in May 2025, the brand exceeded 10,000 vehicle sales, while the Jaecoo J5 became Australia’s best-selling small electric SUV in May 2026.

In Thailand, the Jaecoo J5 led the country’s electric vehicle segment for six consecutive months, while in Brazil, the Jaecoo 7 Hybrid received the prestigious “Hybrid of the Year” award.

Xu emphasised that by April 2026, the two brands had crossed the one million cumulative global sales milestone, a feat that many established automobile manufacturers typically take considerably longer to achieve.

He attributed the rapid rise of Omoda and Jaecoo to their combination of bold styling, advanced technology, generous standard features and competitive pricing, making them increasingly attractive alternatives to more established brands.

Safety has also contributed significantly to consumer confidence. Both the Jaecoo 7 and Omoda 5 have earned five-star safety ratings from the European New Car Assessment Programme (Euro NCAP), Europe’s independent vehicle safety assessment body.

“The rapid expansion of Omoda and Jaecoo is widely seen as evidence of a broader transformation in the global automotive industry, with Chinese manufacturers steadily challenging the dominance of legacy brands in key international markets,” he said.

For emerging markets such as Nigeria, where Chinese vehicle brands continue to gain acceptance, the success of Omoda and Jaecoo shows the changing dynamics of the global automobile industry. It signals increasing competition that could ultimately benefit consumers through greater choice, improved technology and more competitive pricing.
