The Akwa Ibom State Association of Nigeria, USA Inc. (AKISAN) has concluded arrangements aimed at holding its 40th National Anniversary Convention in 2027 in Uyo, the State capital to mark a historic homecoming as they are planning to celebrate four decades of existence.

 

The National President, Dr. Mbong Ekiko, in a statement in Abuja, explained that the decision to return to Uyo comes with the responsibility of organising an anniversary that reflects association’s history while preparing for a new generation.

 

Ekiko added, “The 2027 Convention and homecoming is expected to provide an opportunity for younger members of the Diaspora to reconnect with the state, its culture, people and heritage, saying, we’ll equally reflect on its history and honour the pioneers who nurtured the organisation over the past four decades.”

 

He said the decision was taken at the 39th National Convention held in Dallas, Texas, where Akwa Ibom professionals, community leaders, traditional rulers, entrepreneurs, families and other members of the Diaspora gathered for four days of cultural activities, for engagements, fundraising, networking and leadership events.

 

Also speaking, Chairman of the fundraising launch, Obong Dr. Itata Itata, called on AKISAN members to provide young people with opportunities to lead today rather than simply describing them as leaders of tomorrow, adding that their homecoming will reconnect people in the Diaspora with the home government.

showcased the developments taking place across the state, particularly, the infrastructure in tourism, healthcare, education, social development and investment opportunities.

 

She urged Akwa Ibom indigenes in the Diaspora to bring their expertise, professional skills, international exposure, networks and investments back home, stressing the importance of their participation in the development of the state.

 

According to her, the newly completed terminal of Victor Attah International Airport is positioned as a major gateway into the state

We can also boasts of good road network of more than 1,300 kilometres and 41 bridges connecting Uyo with communities across Akwa Ibom.

 

“The state’s CNG-powered buses are also expected to provide returning delegates with another experience of the administration’s efforts to modernise public transportation while promoting cleaner and more affordable mobility.”

 

She therefore hinted that nearly 230,000 residents are enrolled in the state’s health insurance programme, while the 350-bed Ibom International Hospital provides specialist healthcare services.
