A Non- Governmental Organization (NGO), the Global Center for Media and Human Empowerment (GCMHE) has expressed profound shock and deep sorrow over the sudden passing of the former Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Peter Ajang Azi, who transitioned to glory on Thursday, August 13, 2026.

In an official statement released in Jos, the Acting Group Executive Director of GCMHE, Charles Ejoh, described the late veteran legislator as an embodiment of humility, a stabilizing political force, and a patriot whose legislative footprints left an indelible mark on the sands of time.

According to Ejoh, Peter Azi piloted the affairs of the Plateau State House of Assembly with high intellect, fairness, equity, and a deep commitment to the rule of law. His leadership style during his tenure ensured absolute stability, fostering a harmonious working relationship between the legislature and the executive for the overall peace and development of the state.

“The news of the transition of Rt. Hon. Peter Azi came to us as a rude shock. He was not just a politician; he was a refined statesman, a grassroots mobilizer, and a defender of democratic ideals. His impactful representation of the Jos North-West constituency remains a reference point for quality leadership in Plateau State. “Nigeria’s democracy has indeed lost a detribalised Nigerian and a bridge builder,” the statement stressed.

GCMHE noted that the late Speaker’s immense contributions to peace building, community service, grassroots mobilisation across the state will continue to be remembered by current and future generations.

The organization extended its heartfelt condolences to the immediate Azi Ajang family, the entire Afizere Nation, the people of Jos North-West constituency, and the Government of Plateau State led by His Excellency, Governor Caleb Mutfwang.
GCMHE prayed that the Almighty God would grant the grieving family and the entire state the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss, and grant the soul of the departed eternal rest.
