The Borno State Police Command has arrested two suspected shop burglars and recovered N430,000 in the Zuwa Dawuri area of Maiduguri Metropolitan Council (MMC) of the state.

The command said the arrests were part of its efforts to combat crime and protect lives and property, adding that the operation followed a recent breakthrough in the investigation of a burglary in the community.

In a statement issued yesterday, the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Nahum Daso, said the suspects, identified as Hussain Mohammed and Rabiu Yusuf, both 17, were arrested in connection with the alleged burglary of a provision shop in Maiduguri.

Daso said the shop owner, Mohammed Bello Umar, reported to the command on August 23 that his shop, located in the Gwange Zuwa Dawuri area of Maiduguri, had been burgled in the early hours of August 20.

According to the police, Umar reported that about N2 million in cash, alongside provisions and other items kept in the shop, were stolen by the perpetrators.

The police spokesperson said operatives of the Command’s State Intelligence Department (SID) commenced investigation and acted on credible intelligence, leading to the arrest of the two suspects.

He said the suspects reportedly confessed to the crime during interrogation and mentioned two other alleged accomplices, identified as Kalifa and Pato, who are currently at large.

The command has since recovered N430,000, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend the two other suspects.
The Commissioner of Police, Borno State Command, Naziru Abdulmajid, directed that the investigation be conducted thoroughly and professionally to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and ensure that anyone found culpable is brought to justice.

The command also reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property and urged members of the public to promptly report suspicious activities and provide credible information that could assist police investigations.
