…launch manhunt for fleeing accomplice

Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested a 20-year-old suspect in connection with an alleged gang-rape of a 19-year-old victim in Oke Sopen area of Ijebu-Igbo.

The operatives equally launched an intensive manhunt to track down his fleeing accomplice.

The suspect, Ayomide Kamula, was arrested following a formal report lodged at the station on Tuesday, 1st September 2026, at about 10:10 a.m, by the victim’s mother.

The mother reported at the division that incident occurred on 30th August 2026 at their residence in Odo Idi Scale, Oke Sopen, Ijebu-Igbo.

Spokesperson of the Command, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi confirmed this to newsmen in a statement in Abeokuta yesterday.

Babaseyi said that upon the receipt of the information the operatives immediately swung into action and visited the scene of the crime to gather crucial evidentiary material.

“In line with standard procedures and survivor-centered care, investigating officers promptly escorted the victim to the General Hospital, supported by a formal Police Medical Form, for comprehensive medical examination and care.” he said.

The Spokesperson said that following preliminary inquiries, operatives successfully tracked down and arrested one suspect.

“The suspect is currently in police custody undergoing interrogation while robust operational measures and intelligence-led searches have been intensified to track down and apprehend the fleeing co-suspect, identified as Boye Balogun, ‘m’, who remains at large.” he added.

Babaseyi said that the case is currently being transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation and prosecution.

The Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni condemned the incident, describing sexual and gender-based violence as an egregious crime that will not be tolerated under any circumstance.

Ojajuni reiterated the Command’s firm commitment to a zero-tolerance policy against sexual offences across the state.

He assured the victim’s family and the general public that a thorough, discreet investigation is underway and that no stone will be left unturned in ensuring the fleeing suspect is brought to book to face the full weight of the law.
