Why some professors are unable to deliver inaugural lectures – Don

Professor of Zoology in the Department of Zoology, Faculty of Natural Sciences of the University of Jos, Goselle Obed Nanjul, has given the major reasons why some eminently qualified professors in the universities are unable to deliver inaugural lectures before their exit from the academia.

According to Nanjul, such professors have indepth knowledge of their topics and subjects but are hamstrung by financial wherewithal to provide for the lectures.

He stated this by the way when he was delivering the 128th Inaugural Lecture of the university, stressing that mentorship is very important for successful inaugural lecture.

His lecture is titled “Demodex Transition From Parasitic To Symbiotic Lifestyle: A Lesson For The New Geological Era (Anthropocene)”

As he started his lecture proper after his citation, Nanjul broke down the main topic understood only by natural science experts among the audience.

He said that he considered it a unique and great honour done him to stand before the audience to present the inaugural lecture at Aliyu Akwe Doma Indoor Theatre Hall of the University of Jos.

After all scientific words used in the lecture, Najul concluded thus: “I therefore advocate that in view of the sequence of fast evolving human generations, the Nigerian government must ensure that it fashions out practical policies that will equip our next generations with quality skills.

“Government must also spur them to critical thinking, independently question deeply, evaluate and birth ideas that solve tomorrow’s problems from today’s challenges and to positively impact the world.”
