…Declare support President’s second terms bid

The Yoruba Leaders Forum (YLF) has called for a unified security framework across Yorubaland, stronger engagement with the Presidency and greater recognition for stakeholders who supported President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2023 election.

The forum said the three measures were necessary to strengthen security, deepen cooperation between Yoruba leaders and the Federal Government, and improve the participation of stakeholders in governance ahead of the 2027 elections.

In a statement signed by its National Leader, Barrister George Ogunjimi, and Secretary-General, HRH Sooko Agoriesin Oladotun Hassan, the YLF urged community security groups across the Southwest to abandon rivalry and work together to protect lives and property.

The forum listed the Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC), Iru Ekun Security Network/Hunters, Southwest security groups, vigilantes, Agbekoya, Atunluse and Eso Abo Oodua Agbaye among the initiatives that should be brought into a coordinated security framework.

It stressed that the groups must operate within the law and coordinate with elected officials and recognised national security agencies.

The forum said priority should be given to protecting farms, schools, highways, rural roads, markets, government infrastructure, businesses and other economic assets across Yorubaland.

The YLF also resolved to seek a direct audience with President Tinubu to present a memorandum outlining the concerns and expectations of Yoruba stakeholders.

It called for a structured consultation mechanism through which Yoruba leaders could engage the Presidency on security, infrastructure, agriculture, employment, economic development and social welfare.

The forum said continued engagement was necessary to build stronger cooperation between the Federal Government and Yoruba stakeholders.

The group also declared support for Tinubu’s bid for a second term in the 2027 presidential election.

However, it urged the President to recognise what it described as the sacrifices made by Yoruba leaders, grassroots organisers and supporters during the 2023 election.

According to the forum, such recognition should go beyond symbolic gestures to include meaningful consultation, inclusion, development and opportunities for competent stakeholders to contribute to governance.

The YLF said it would work with the Yoruba Council Worldwide to mobilise traditional rulers and other stakeholders for the second edition of the Yoruba Obas Conference scheduled for November 7, 2026, at Ojaja Arena Resort, Ile-Ife.

The forum said the event would provide an opportunity to host President Tinubu as Special Guest of Honour, with the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, as Grand Royal Host.

The group urged Yoruba traditional rulers, political leaders, community leaders, youths and women to remain united while respecting legitimate political differences.

It also called on eligible citizens to register to vote, obtain their Permanent Voter Cards and participate peacefully and responsibly in the 2027 electoral process.
