The Ebonyi South Youth Assembly has criticised a statement allegedly circulated online by former Special Assistant in last administration Chief Emmanuel Igwe, accusing him of attempting to drag the people of Izzi Clan into what it described as “kindred politics” ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a statement in Abakaliki the National President of the Group, Mr. Odii Njoku, said it would ordinarily have ignored the statement but was compelled to respond in the interest of clarity and to prevent what it described as misinformation from creating tension among the people.

Igwe had reportedly claimed that the Unwueru Kindred had “drawn the line” to vote for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

However, Njoku dismissed the claim, insisting that the people of Unwueru Kindred were satisfied with the administration of Governor Francis Nwifuru and had remained at the forefront of campaigns for his re-election.

According to him, Igwe lacked the moral and political standing to speak on behalf of the Izzi people, alleging that he was not from Izzi and should therefore concentrate on political activities in his Ezzagu community.

The group further accused Igwe of attempting to create political tension in Izzi, a community it described as peaceful and hospitable saying that Emmanuel Igwe has no right to speak for the Izzi people because he is not from Izzi.

He should concentrate on his Ezzagu community and tell the people what his preferred candidate has to offer,” the statement said.

The youth assembly also made allegations concerning Igwe’s previous roles as a Special Assistant to the state government, claiming that his activities during his tenure allegedly generated controversy and crisis in some areas.

It alleged that while serving as Special Assistant on Park Development, Igwe was involved in actions that allegedly created divisions among his people.

The group further alleged that during his time as Special Assistant on Land Development, he was involved in controversial land-related activities and accused him of leaving some people allegedly stranded after financial transactions.

The Ebonyi South Youth Assembly also criticised what it described as Igwe’s attempt to promote the PDP’s governorship candidate through social media while allegedly failing to visit his community to engage directly with the electorate.

It challenged him to leave Abuja and return to Ezzagu to demonstrate his political strength at his polling unit.

“Let him come to Ebonyi State and campaign for his candidate. Let him tell the people what his candidate will do for them instead of making statements from Abuja,” the group said.

The youth body urged the people of Izzi to disregard what it described as political propaganda and support Governor Nwifuru, whom it credited with significant achievements in infrastructure and human capital development.

It also commended Governor Francis Nwifuru and Senator Onyekachi Nwebonyi for what it described as quality representation and contributions to the development of their people.

“Apart from his developmental strides which cut across the three senatorial zones in the state, Governor has shown commitment in addressing some the challenges facing Izzi clan” Njoku said.

“Sen Onyekachi Nwebonyi on his own have shown capacity, trust and true representation of his senatorial zone and his Izzi brothers and sisters are very happy with him” Njoku added.

The group maintained that political differences should not be allowed to undermine the peace and unity of the Izzi people or trigger unnecessary conflict ahead of the 2027 elections.
