MTN Nigeria Foundation has revealed that over N34 billion has been spent on social investment executing over 54 unique projects, reaching over 33million people, 3500 communities, 590 and local councils.

The Executive Secretary of the foundation, Mrs. Odunayo Sanya, revealed this at the closing ceremony of the 2026 MTN-SAIL teachers fellowship programme for 5000 teachers. She added that over N207 million has been invested on the MTN-SAIL teachers fellowship from 2024 to date, with 8704 teachers impacted.

According to her, the fellowship is executed in two phases and teachers from 36 states and Abuja have been impacted.

She further said that the foundation focus on capacity building, health and empowerment which are streamlined into two operational portfolios of national priority and youth empowerment.

The Chairman, MTN Nigeria Foundation, Dr. Mosun Belo-Olusoga, represented by Mr. Simon Aranonu, a director of the foundation, noted that the future of the nation is present in the classrooms long before it is reflected in its boardrooms, laboratories or government offices.

“Behind every successful doctor, engineer, entrepreneur, scientist or leader is a teacher whose curiosity nurtured potential and inspired confidence. That is why teachers are among the most important architects of our future.They do not simply educate. They shape our lives, strengthen communities and help transform nations.

“It is therefore our conviction at MTN Foundation that we continue to invest in teachers. Through our partnership with SAIL Empowerment Foundation over the past three years, together we have trained more than 8,000 educators with contemporary teaching methodologies, digital competencies and the skills they need to navigate a rapidly evolving digital world.

“Through inquiry-based learning, learner-centred teaching approaches, digital pedagogy and exposure to emerging technology, including Google Classroom and artificial intelligence applications, our fellows are better equipped to create classrooms where students can think critically, innovate boldly and prepare for the opportunities ahead.” She commendedall the partners on the project for their vision and dedication.

Congratulating all the teachers, she asked them to return to their classrooms and communities, remembering that their influence extends far beyond the classroom. “Take what you have learned, share it with your colleagues and continue to challenge your students to think bigger and believe that all things are possible.”

Also speaking, Co-Founder, SAIL Empowerment Foundation, Mrs Feyisola Abiru, said the initiative was built on the conviction that teacher arethe most critical link between education policy and the Nigerian child.She said the Fellowship, which began in 2022, has now trained more than 10,000 public school teachers across all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

She added that the current cohort was made up entirely of public school teachers, reflecting SAIL’s deliberate focus on the education system that serves the majority of Nigerian children.

Three outstanding graduands got a new laptop and laptop bag each from SAIL Empowerment Foundation for exceptional commitment and classroom application of the training.
