The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Taraba State University (TSU), Jalingo Branch, has issued a final 14-day ultimatum to the Taraba State Government over the non-implementation of some outstanding provisions of the Federal Government/ASUU 2025 Agreement.

The union warned that it could resort to lawful measures to protect the interests of its members if the outstanding issues are not addressed before the expiration of the latest deadline.

The ultimatum, which commenced on September 14 and will expire on September 28, 2026, was contained in a statement signed by the Chairman of ASUU-TSU, Dr Joshua Garba Mbave, and made available to journalists in Jalingo.

The latest warning comes barely three weeks after an earlier ultimatum by the university chapter expired, raising concerns over a possible escalation of the dispute between the academic union and the state government.

Although the union stopped short of declaring industrial action, its decision to issue a final notice signals growing pressure on the government to resolve the outstanding issues and prevent a disruption of academic activities at the university.

ASUU-TSU said some key provisions of the 2025 agreement were still awaiting implementation and required urgent government attention.

The union, however, acknowledged what it described as efforts by the Taraba State Government to address issues affecting the university, while also recognising the government’s commitment to maintaining industrial harmony and dialogue.

“While we acknowledge the Government’s commitment to industrial harmony and dialogue, we wish to note that some key provisions of the Agreement remain outstanding and require urgent attention.

“We appreciate the efforts of the Taraba State Government towards addressing issues affecting the University and implementing the FGN/ASUU 2025 Agreement,” the statement said.

The union said the fresh ultimatum was intended to provide the government with another opportunity to take concrete steps towards full implementation of the outstanding provisions.

It stated: “Consequently, ASUU-TSU issues a final 14-day notice effective from 14th September, 2026, to 28th September, 2026, urging the government to take concrete steps toward full implementation of the outstanding provisions.

“The Union remains committed to peaceful engagement and constructive dialogue but may consider lawful measures to protect members’ interests if the issues remain unresolved after the expiration of the notice.”

ASUU-TSU further appealed to stakeholders to support efforts aimed at maintaining a stable and productive academic environment at the university.
It expressed hope that the government would respond promptly to the demands in order to sustain stability and ensure uninterrupted academic activities.

The latest ultimatum is a continuation of the union’s pressure on the state government over the implementation of the agreement.
On August 13, 2026, ASUU-TSU had issued a 14-day ultimatum to Governor Agbu Kefas and the Taraba State Government, demanding full implementation of the agreement or face possible industrial action.

That ultimatum expired on August 26 without what the union described as concrete and verifiable action from the government.

However, the union did not immediately embark on industrial action, citing the combined convocation ceremony of the university, which was scheduled within the period.

With the latest deadline now set for September 28, stakeholders in the university community are watching closely to see whether the government will resolve the outstanding issues before the expiration of the notice.

For students, parents and other members of the university community, the central concern is whether the latest engagement will produce a resolution that keeps academic activities running without disruption.

For ASUU-TSU, however, the latest notice represents what it has described as a final opportunity for the government to demonstrate commitment to the full implementation of the 2025 agreement before the union considers further lawful steps to protect its members’ interests.
