Lagos State House of Assembly has passed the 2026 Appropriation (Amendment) Bill into law.

The amendment bill was passed during plenary following the consideration of a letter from the governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, seeking the approval of the House for the re-ordering of priorities under the 2026 budget.

The letter was read by the Clerk of the House, Adenike Oshinowo, and subsequently referred to the Committee on Economic Planning and Budget for consideration and report back to the House within two weeks.

Chairman of the committee, Lukmon Olumoh, while presenting the committee’s report, explained that the current level of budget performance had made it necessary to reassess the state’s implementation strategy and adopt a more focused approach to capital investments for the remaining months of the 2026 fiscal year.

According to him, the re-ordering of priorities would accelerate project execution and improve the overall performance of capital expenditure, while responding to current demands and emerging needs across the state.

In his contribution to the debate, Aro Moshood emphasised the importance of effective legislative oversight, noting that the laws enacted by the House must be followed by proper monitoring of their implementation.

He urged his colleagues to discharge their oversight responsibilities diligently, stressing that the Executive must comply with the provisions of the newly passed amendment law and ensure that funds are applied strictly to the approved priorities.

The Speaker, Dr Mudashiru Obasa, following the consideration and adoption of the committee’s report, directed the Clerk to forward a clean copy of the bill to the governor for his assent.
