The Allied Peoples’ Movement (APM) senatorial candidate for Oyo South, Hon. Adedeji Dhikrullahi Olajide Odidiomo, has pledged to facilitate the provision of 9,900 street-light poles, create employment opportunities and promote infrastructure development across the senatorial district if elected in the 2027 elections.

Odidiomo made the pledge during an interactive session with Community Development Committees (CDCs) from Ido and Ibarapa East Local Government Areas, where he unveiled what he described as his development “social pact” with communities in Oyo South.

He said his agenda would focus on education, agriculture, healthcare, technology, employment and infrastructure, with grassroots communities playing a central role in determining development priorities.

Under his proposed “Light-Up Oyo South Senatorial District” initiative, Odidiomo said 100 street-light poles would be provided in each of the 99 wards across the nine local government areas of the senatorial district, amounting to 9,900 poles.

He said the initiative was intended to enhance security, extend productive hours and support commercial activities in communities across Oyo South.

On employment and skills development, the candidate said his agenda would include technical and vocational education and training for youths, digital and artificial intelligence training for teachers, ICT and science laboratory interventions, as well as technology and entrepreneurship grants.

He also proposed the establishment of an ICT hub in each of the nine local government areas in Oyo South, saying the initiative would provide opportunities for young people to acquire digital skills and participate in the technology-driven economy.

In agriculture, Odidiomo promised to introduce an Ibarapa Agriculture Empowerment and Value Chain Programme, comprising an agricultural equipment bank, an agro-processing hub, solar-powered irrigation, farmers’ cooperatives, market linkages and an Agricultural Financing Desk.

He also pledged to facilitate the establishment of a Federal Medical Centre in Oyo South, citing the existence of similar federal medical facilities in neighbouring states and parts of Lagos.

Odidiomo said the proposed initiatives would be implemented through direct engagement with grassroots structures, adding that his interaction with the CDCs was part of efforts to establish a development partnership with communities ahead of the election.

Earlier, the CDC chairman in Ido Local Government, Alhaji Ola Lasisi Bello, commended Odidiomo for what he described as his support for community development structures.

Bello said some of Odidiomo’s interventions predated his senatorial ambition, urging the communities to support his development agenda.

Those at the meeting included the Special Adviser to the Governor on Ido/Ibarapa East Federal Constituency, Hon. Akano Matthew; Chairman of Ido Local Government, Hon. Sheriff Adeojo; the council secretary, Kamorudeen Gbadamosi; Chairman of the Oyo State Civil Service Commission, Alhaji Kamorudeen Aderibigbe; and other community and political leaders.
