Bauchi Poly lecturers demand implementation of new salary structure

The University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT) chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has declared an indefinite strike over the alleged failure to implement the Federal Government-ASUU agreement signed in December 2025.

The branch chairperson, Prof. Omeh Obasi Ngwoke, said the industrial action is also prompted by alleged illegalities within the institution.

Ngwoke said the union had held several engagements with the university management and exercised patience in the hope that its outstanding salaries would be paid in full, in accordance with Federal Government directives.

However, he stated that the union could no longer tolerate the continued non-payment of salaries, forcing it to embark on a strike.

The UNIPORT ASUU chairman also lamented that its members were living in abject poverty and that some had even lost their lives as a result of the non-payment of salaries.

The union vowed not to call off the strike until the university yields to its demands and stops violating the Federal Government’s orders and directives.

ALSO, the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP), Abubakar Tatari Ali Polytechnic (ATAPOLY), Bauchi, has called on the Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, to facilitate the implementation of the newly reviewed salary structure and the Consolidated Academic Tools Allowance (CATA) for academic staff of the institution.

The Chairman of ASUP—ATAPOLY Chapter, Nazif Abba Pali, during a press briefing yesterday, said the implementation of the approved salary structure and CATA would help improve staff motivation, productivity, and the quality of education delivered by academic staff.
