Communities in Tambuwal Local Council Area of Sokoto State have held a protest in Tambuwal town over the persistent security challenges in the entire council.

The residents said the protest was against the worsening insecurity, which has continued to ravage the axis, urging the government and security agencies to intensify efforts to protect lives and property.

In the meantime, as part of the ongoing counter-terrorism operations in the Northeast, the Borno State Government has handed over no fewer than 925 trained forest guards to the Nigerian Army to secure and protect the Sambisa Forest.

Speaking at the handover over the weekend in Maiduguri, the Commissioner of Information and Internal Security, Prof. Usman Tar, said the forest guards, drawn from the state’s 27 local councils, have completed a two-week in-theatre acclimatisation training at the Northeast Theatre Training School.

Tar, who represented Governor Babagana Zulum, said the 925 personnel were being handed over to the Theatre Commander, Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI, Major-Gen. Ibukunle Ajose.

Noting that the worsening insecurity has brought fear and untold woes to the residents, the protesters also called for sustained engagement between security agencies, government authorities and local communities to improve intelligence gathering and ensure a more effective response to the menace.
